While the High Sierras are getting pounded by snowstorms, California’s rivers are near flood stage.
This video from kayaker Carson Lindsay captures that rather vividly. Along with Louis Norris and Seth Dow, Lindsay took a stab at the Chamberlain Falls section of the North Fork American last week and estimated the flows to be around 30,000 cubic feet per second, peaking at around 45,000.

The crew ran through Chamberlain Falls Rapid, which you might recognize (or not) in the video. The team decided to pull out after this beast. “I think the rest of the run would still be good to go, everything downstream looked pretty wide open, yesterday just wasn’t the day,” Lindsay said on Facebook. Always good to listen to that voice in your head.
