The Inertia

Back in September, doctors diagnosed accomplished and well-respected snowboard photographer Chris Brunkhart with stage 4 colon cancer. Shortly after the discovery, Chris’ friends, family, and coworkers spread the word for help and donations via a GoFundMe page. This support has likely kept the legendary lensman going in true Brunkhart fashion.

But this push was only the first salvo. Now, two months after the initial push, the snowboard community is rallying again.

This weekend, Nemo Design will hold a silent auction to raise money for Brunkhart’s fight against cancer. The fundraiser, aptly named ps.fuckcancer, will be this coming Friday from 7 to 11 p.m. at 1875 Southeast Belmont in Portland, Oregon. 100% of the proceeds from the silent auction will be donated to Chris’ care and treatment. On display and up for auction will be over 50 pieces of art, 36 limited edition prints signed by Chris, snowboard memorabilia, product packages, season passes, and even the chance to bid on an entry to Mt. Baker’s Legendary Banked Slalom.

A cursory glance at Instagram (#helpbrunkhart) will give you a glimpse of this altruistic outpouring of art, history, and, above all, compassion. What is very clear is that Chris matters to people, and for good reason. Brunkhart has had a profound effect on the Northwest snowboard scene. Now is our opportunity to return the favor.

The fundraiser will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. tomorrow (Friday, November 14) at Nemo Design, or 1875 Southeast Belmont in Portland, Oregon. There will be a suggested $10 donation at the door.  If you are unable to make it to Nemo, you can make a donation at on the aforementioned GoFundMe page.

For more information, here are details from Chris Brunkhart’s GoFundMe page: We are just three days away from our first art show/auction benefit event for Chris. If you are anywhere near Portland, OR please be sure to join us this Friday night from 7-11pm at Nemo Design, 1875 SE Belmont. Chris is planning to be in attendance early in the evening but is highly susceptible to germs due to his compromised immune system. Please use good and smart judgment about attending if you are at all sick, have a cold, or are getting over one. Thanks! Up for auction will be over 50 pieces of artwork and photography from snowboarding’s most legendary shooters; 36 limited edition prints signed and numbered by Chris; incredible snowboard memorabilia from Andy Trujillo, Bryan Iguchi, Mike Parillo, Justin Hostynek, Jamie Lynn, Matt Cummins, Scotty Wittlake and more; awesome product packages from Volcom, Vans, Mervin, Dakine, Nixon, Mizu, Bonfire, iNi, Flux, Flow, Incase, Zound, Marshall, James, GoPro and many more; full season passes for Timberline and Meadows; and a truly once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to compete in the Mt. Baker Legendary Banked Slalom with Chris’ name on your bib. Suggested donation at the door is $10 and cash is highly encouraged. 100% of every dime raised, including bar tips, will go directly to Chris and help support him in his fight. Our thanks to Nemo, Burnside Brewing Company, Sierra Nevada Brewing Co., Rose City Signs and Oregon Screen Impressions for their generous support. And our deepest thanks to all of the art, product and memorabilia donors listed below. We are proud to count you among our friends. See you Friday night!
