The Inertia

Reality shows have reached a certain level of ridiculousness. They’re especially weird in the realm of outdoor adventure. Survivor gives us the drama. Man vs Wild  provides the unnecessary hyperbole. But perhaps none go more to the heart of this capitalistic deformity of exposing nature for mass content than Naked and Afraid, a Discovery Channel Show that pits two strangers in the wild, totally naked, forced to survive on what little animalistic instincts that haven’t evolved out of the human race.

But then this: bravo Saturday Night Live, which was hosted this weekend by Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones, Elf). This skit, demolishing Naked and Afraid, was far and away Dinklage’s best work on the show. SNL cast member Leslie Jones is genius, reflecting perfectly the silly drama that proliferates the survivalist genre of reality television while poking fun at pretty much every aspect of society, including herself. This will lighten up your Monday.
