Shaun White made it happen, completing his path to redemption after a difficult 2014 Sochi Olympics. White won the Burton US Open Saturday, unleashing a massive first run while landing what some were calling “the biggest backside air ever seen.” This after falling in slopestyle Friday.
White was not invited to the X Games because of disparaging comments he made about the franchise, according to some reports. White has certainly been focused this year. He won the Dew Tour halfpipe in December. “I was just feeling it today,” White said on the webcast after. “I’m pumped, there were rumors saying I was retiring but I still feel like I’m just getting started.”
In February, White, who has won two olympic halfpipe golds, announced on Access Hollywood that he would work to qualify for the 2018 Olympics in Seoul.
Hood River, Oregon’s Ben Ferguson finished second with Japan’s Taku Hiraoka ending third.
