The massive winter storm that’s rocked much of the United States the past few days has produced a lot of headlines. As of Monday morning more than 800,000 homes had been impacted by power outages, thousands of flights had been cancelled across the nation, and New York Governor Kathy Hochul even mobilized National Guard troops in New York City, Long Island and the Hudson Valley.
“An Arctic siege has taken over our state,” Hochul said. “It is brutal, it is bone-chilling and it is dangerous.”
The city saw 15 inches on Sunday, and Central Park got a record 11.4 inches, so Hochul wasn’t being dramatic. But it wasn’t exactly doom and gloom for New Yorkers who made their way through the historic park and were treated to a show by three-time Olympic Gold Medalist Shaun White.
White, who retired from competition after the 2022 Beijing Games, will be part of NBC’s broadcast team for the upcoming Milano Cortina Games. He was joined by comedians Shane Gillis and Chris O’Connor and at one point jumped over both.
Videos and photos flooded social media and by all accounts the session appears to be totally impromptu. Gotta take advantage of a good ol’ fashioned powder day however (and wherever) you can.
