A skier has died at a Swiss ski resort after a cable car crashed down a mountain. Little is known about the cause of the accident, which was caught on video by onlookers.
The incident occurred Wednesday in Engelberg, Switzerland. A police spokesperson told press that one person sustained fatal injuries, but the exact cause of death had not been confirmed. That guest was the only person in the gondola at the time of the crash. As of publication, the skier’s identity has not been released by police.
After the crash, an estimated 100-200 people were evacuated from 40 other gondolas, as Swissinfo reports. No further accidents were reported.
Nidwalden cantonal police are currently investigating the cause of the accident, with no findings reported as of yet. However the region was experiencing strong winds that closed numerous other local ski lifts.
