Things can go south in an instant on powder days. We don’t like to admit it to ourselves because there’s so much fun to be had and quite frankly, they’re the days most of us look forward to the most. If you’re lucky, you’ll live a long life filled with a lot of great memories charging pow – with zero hiccups. If you’re smart, you’ll enjoy every single one of those powder days with confident and capable friends.
Snowboarder Lucas Brito is in the category of people who are tremendously fortunate to have the sh*t scared out of them without it turning into tragedy. On a trip to Japan, Brito was out with friends when he fell into a sinkhole. No warning, no slow reveal, just ripping through a run when poof, snow collapses under his feet and suddenly he’s sitting in a shallow pool of (freezing) water calling out for help.
Luckily, Brito wasn’t injured in the fall and he wasn’t alone. He immediately called out for help and was able to get out of the sinkhole unscathed.
“Scared shitless in that last clip,” he wrote after the trip. “Too many highlights from the trip to Hokkaido last week ? Shredding Niseko’s resort, meeting great people, scoring Japow, and getting scared on the limit were definitely some of them! So much footage to go through and organize, as much as it’s practically summer already there will be plenty of winter content rolling out this week. What a place, what a trip.”
