The Inertia

Holy s***! One of the greatest snowboarders the world has ever known nearly got smashed by a tree as he slept in Washington. Terje Haakonsen was apparently competing in the Mt. Baker Legendary Banked Slalom event near Glacier, Washington last weekend. While staying with friends in a nearby cabin, a humongous tree or two, fueled by heavy winds, took their revenge and crashed into the structure. One of the branches poked through the ceiling and looks as though it could have impaled someone in the bed. “Woke up to an earthquake on Saturday, we thought,” wrote Terje. “Offline living in the thick forest #lbs33.” While Terje didn’t win the Banked Slalom, an event he’s taken out before, he did get lucky with the falling trees.
