It’s that time of year when late summer starts to slide into early fall and a little bit of powder fever picks up as well. For me, it was always the combination of Labor Day sales on last season’s gear and the knowledge of a new Warren Miller film I’d be popping into my calendar that got the juices flowing. Sure, actual winter storms and enough snow to fire up more than two lifts around Tahoe were still months away, but for me, the drop of a new ski and snowboard flick marked the real beginning of a new season.
In that same spirit, the folks at Teton Gravity Research have been churning out an annual film to get powder hounds ready for winter for 29 years now. This year’s film, BEYOND THE FANTASY, highlights the 2023-2024 winter from iconic spots around the globe.
“We’ve traveled the world for 29 years pursuing groundbreaking action and cinematography. Over the years, we’ve collected countless stories and experienced extraordinary moments,” says Todd Jones, co-founder of TGR. “This year’s annual film taps into these mind-bending fantasies – be it an all-time Alaskan winter, or scoring A-plus Jackson Hole at its finest; this season was a fantasy to behold.”
The trailer and press release from TGR shared little in terms of storylines or themes, but they did reveal locations and athlete lineups, including stops in Austria, Norway, British Columbia, Alaska, and Jackson Hole. Athletes include Kai Jones, Ian McIntosh, Nick McNutt, Maggie Voisin, Sage Cattabriga-Alosa, Parkin Costain, Griffin Post, Janelle Yip, Yuki Kadono, Tim Durtschi, Alex Armstrong, Colter Hinchliffe, Brian Iguchi, “and many more.”
