This should put to bed the thought that there’s any bias whatsoever in the avalanche game. Sliding snow plays no favorites. This video, that showed up on the YouTube page of Bruno Karrett, who claims to be a scientist, shows kids sledding in the Bingol province of eastern Turkey.
As they’re sledding a face that actually looks ripe for a slide, it lets loose, funneling down a terrain trap. It looks as though one of the kids was carried with it, as you can see what look like terrified moms chasing after. According to the YouTube page, no one was injured, luckily.
The mountainous areas around Bingöl have taken lives before in avalanches (there’s apparently a small ski resort there known as Kurucadag Mountain). In 1998, at least seven soldiers were killed after an army unit chasing Kurdish rebels was buried in a slide.
