In a scene straight out of children’s movie Up, Great Britain’s Tom Morgan flew almost 16 miles using 100 helium balloons. He’d apparently attempted the feat in Botswana three times before but finally made magic happen north of Johannesburg, South Africa, according to the YouTube caption. “I found an article on a 1905 gas balloon race and thought ‘we could do that,'” he said. “The problem was finding a good weather window and it was difficult to protect the balloons as they kept bursting.”
That could make for a problem in protecting one’s well being as well. He reached 8,000 feet and had to watch that he wasn’t in the flight path of any planes leaving or coming into a nearby airport.
