The Inertia

Most action sports films just don’t come off that deep. Rooted in action “porn,” there isn’t always a lot to say. But then there’s a gem every once in a while, like Blood Trail, a cinematic journey that follows Rebecca Rusch as she rides 1,200 miles of the infamous Ho Chi Minh Trail that winds through north Vietnam and into Laos and Cambodia, searching for the the site where her father, an Air Force pilot, was shot down some 40 years ago.

Rusch, an endurance mountain biker who’s won some of the toughest distance races in the world multiple times and lives in Sun Valley, Idaho, was joined in her journey by Huyen Nguyen, a Vietnamese native who of course was also deeply affected by the war there. The film is part adventure film, part historical documentary, and all heart-felt journey as director Nicholas Schrunk delves into the different perspectives that were shaped by the conflict.

The film premieres across the country this month.
