The Inertia

Talk about a tourist trap. That’s what this hiking trail in China is and according to some estimates, it kills at least 100 people every year.

It’s located on Huashan Mountain in Shaanxi Province in the northwest part of the country. Known as the Mount Hua Skywalk, the dicey network of trails was made with wooden boards, ropes, chains and seemingly any other materials builders could get their hands on. It’s been used for centuries by Taoist monks and followers of that faith visiting the mountain, which is considered holy in China.

The route has become overrun with tourists as you can see from this drone footage captured by a Chinese television station. How the hell are those rickety boards holding that much weight? The below Instagram post is another, less crowded view of the network.
