A unique style of skateboarding is surging in popularity in South Korea, and it’s pretty incredible to watch. Koreans call it freestyle longboarding. It somewhat resembles longboard surfing – with the cross-stepping and the subdued approach – but it’s essentially a flatland dance on the streets.
Hyojoo Ko is one of the most well-known Korean longboarders. She says Korea became ground zero for flatland freestyle longboarding mainly because there are so few hills. The scene now, she explains, is flourishing.
