If you’re into bikes, even a little, you probably catch part of the Tour de France each summer and think to yourself, “why do these men do this to themselves?” Well, prize money and prestige probably have something to do with wanting to win the most visible bike race in the world. But we forget how gnarly the whole thing is, how fast these riders go, how tightly packed they are on tiny, urban thoroughfares. And then we get a reminder like this as Pierre-luc Périchon goes down extremely hard after hitting what looks like a race barrier during Stage 4, captured by fellow rider and teammate Natnael Berhane. Périchon walked away from this incident but damn!! It all happens fast so you may have to watch it twice.
