The Inertia

The Red Bull Rampage ain’t your daddy’s mountain bike event. It’s not a cross-country, or even an Enduro, contest with camp chairs and coolers at the finish line. It’s not barbecues and beer drinking (although there may be some of that). It’s straight-up freeride, as 21 of the world’s best meet up in the Utah desert this weekend for the 13th Annual Rampage. And to the regular mountain biker, it’s tough to relate. But that doesn’t mean it’s not radical.

Pinkbike, which does an excellent job with its mountain bike coverage in general, posted this video of the course and a few run-throughs and it truly shows how nuts this event is. Twenty-five to 35-foot off-angled drops are standard. A few of the test runs are smooth as. Some of the others? Not so much. The video, hosted by the always-engaging Brett Tippie, gives viewers a good look at just how incredible (and dangerous) this course is and where freeride has pushed the limits of mountain biking.

You can watch the event live from Virgin, Utah here.
