The U.S. Mint is getting into snowsports. Thanks to a new program featuring youth sports on America’s quarters, snowboarding is going to be featured on U.S. currency.
The coin is part of a four-year program that kicks off in 2027. The tails side shows art of a young woman performing a grab, with a hint of a snowy landscape below. The front of the coins will feature a new portrait of George Washington in civilian attire at a three-quarter angle. In addition to the snowboarder coin, the first year will feature baseball, golf, soccer and softball. Skiers will have to wait until 2030 to see themselves represented.
This won’t be be the first time the U.S. Mint has produced a coin featuring a snowboarder. Back in 2022, the agency created a one dollar coin featuring a snowboarder performing a melon grab. The coin, part of a multi-year series of commemorative pieces representing each state, featured a mountainous winter skyline inspired by the landscape of Vermont.
