Well, if this isn’t a kick in the teeth: a pair of volunteer search and rescue members were held up and robbed at gunpoint this weekend after being confronted on the Pacific Crest Trail in Kern County east of Bakersfield, Calif.
The rescuers were after four hikers who were in distress, one of which was apparently injured or sick, according to reports. The Kern County Fire Department had to “hoist” the distressed hiker out of the area, along with three others.
The marauders apparently stole radios from the search and rescue members, then ordered them to leave the area.
The Kern County Sheriffs Office and U.S. Forest Service have closed the area until they finish an investigation.
