The Inertia

Idaho’s Snake River is a mysterious beast, and mysterious beasts live within it. The river drains from the mountains of Wyoming across Idaho’s southern planes. In the east, it’s full of huge trout and as it flows west, across the desert, and through farmland, it turns dark and murky and warms, and gigantic fish lay within its depths.

This video above is a bit wonky as far as editing and music, but check out the size of this sturgeon. The giants are bottom feeders, eating crustaceans and small fish that come through the turbines of dams. And they’re tough: they regularly live more than 100 years and have maintained the look of their now-fossilized ancestors from thousands of years ago.

They get big, too. This eight-foot fish nearly flips this sit-on-top kayak that’s probably 40-inches wide (at least) and built for stability. The thing is gigantic! Hopefully, these guys released it.
