River guide Dave Hugill caught some pretty amazing video last month on the Elaho River, near Squamish, British Columbia. Hugill was guiding a trip when he caught this grizzly bear charging one of his safety kayakers. “So this happened in my office today,” wrote Hugill. “A young Grizzly bear thought my safety kayaker Jono looked like the biggest Salmon he’d ever set eyes on.”

The guide later told reporters that a dead elk happened to be lying on the other side of the river and that the young bear was probably just protecting its meal. The safety kayaker definitely kept his head, calmly paddling away from the bear. Definitely a Class V situation handled with aplomb.
