Don’t look now, but “West by Gawd Virginia” is having one of the best snow seasons in the country, as aptly illustrated by Snowshoe Resort and its Instagram page. You can see ski patrol having a real hootenanny in what actually looks like real powder.
The mountain opened on November 21 to a 42-inch base with some 400 revel-rousers on hand to celebrate the opening. Snowshoe features 14 lifts covering its 4,848-foot peak. Surprisingly, the state sees almost a million skier and rider visits per year which contributes some $250 million to its economy. Cold temperatures and an abundance of precipitation have kept the snow cold and dry. And there’s more in the forecast.
