The Inertia

Saturday, near Park City, Utah, a skier knocked a significant slab off in the backcountry just east of Brighton Estates in an area known as Guardsman Pass, according to local media. The skier aired into the panel of snow and it looks as though he may have messed up the jump as the snow cuts loose under him upon landing. Check how fast he slides past those trees!

The Utah Avalanche Center estimated the slope at 47 degrees. It was around three feet deep, 200 yards wide, and the snow traveled at least that far down the slope before burying the skier under a foot of snow. He can be heard screaming as his friends come to his rescue. Apparently, his ski was sticking out of the snow, making it easier for his partners to find him.

According to reports, the buried skier was the fourth person on the slope and the entirety of it gave away after he landed with his partners seeing the accident and converging on their buried friend quickly, finding him within 75 seconds. All of the skiers were wearing backcountry safety equipment.
