Ah, Montana. Easy on the eyes. Cool college towns. And stock full of a populace so conservative in its political leanings, it begins to swing the other way. Completely by accident. There’s no speed limits, for example. And it’s literally illegal to have a sheep in the cab of your truck without a chaperone ( that’s true, look it up). But you see what we mean.
And you can be damn sure there’s no rules about racing barstools on skis. Not to generalize–but okay, we’ll generalize–Montana’s wonderful populace is utterly unashamed of its Redneckian culture and has a wonderful willingness to make fun of itself.
So this, in all its glory, is a cut of Americana at the 37th Annual Cabin Fever Days in Martin City, Montana, a village northeast of Kalispel and east of Whitefish on the Flathead River–an unbelievably gorgeous spot on the Earth’s surface, we might add. And we understand the mayhem and encourage it. Winter can be long for us, too.
