The season is on. Arapahoe Basin off Interstate 70 in Colorado opened today, becoming the first Colorado resort to open for business. Further west, Oregon’s Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood east of Portland opened Pucci lift today and with plenty on the way, it’s looking as though winter is picking up where it left off last season.
Weather forecasters are calling for a massive snowstorm with winter storm warnings in effect, especially in the Pacific Northwest where parts of the Cascades, on up into British Columbia are expected to get some 30 inches of snow. Mt. Bachelor has received 15 inches of snow in the last 24 hours and is open to hiking even though the lifts aren’t open yet.
The forecast looks similar for next week where Oregon and Washington are expected to get rain on the coast all week and depending on temperatures, inland mountain ranges could get pummeled.
