Two young boys found the body of a deceased baby at a popular Sydney beach Sunday morning. While digging in the sand at the southern end of Maroubra Beach, the boys, aged six and seven, discovered the naked infant 20-30 meters from the water’s edge, according to The Daily Mail. The authorities were contacted around 10 a.m. and had the scene cleaned up by 1 p.m.
“The sex and age of the child is unable to be determined at this point,” sand Inspector Andrew Holland to the Daily Mail, “due to the decomposition of the body.”
Officers are hoping that the postmortem exam scheduled for Monday will reveal more about this tragic death. The whereabouts of the infant’s mother are unknown at this time and police have yet to identify any suspects.
Inspector Holland has urged anyone with information regarding the infant’s or mother’s identity to report it immediately to the local authorities.
It is only expected to hear that the surrounding community is in a state of shock from this sickening news. “It’s just awful. It will have traumatized the poor the kids for life, no matter how much counseling they get,” said one witness.
