Karl-Erivan Haub, a German billionaire, and entrepreneur is missing in the Swiss Alps. An experienced ski mountaineer, Haub, 58, was reportedly training for the “Patrouille”, a ski mountaineering race hosted by the Swiss Army later this month.
Haub runs the German-based Tengelmann Group, which operates a number of retail chains and other businesses. Haub apparently was out skiing on the Klein Matterhorn, a glaciated peak that is the highest in Europe accessed via cable car.
Search teams haven’t given up hope of finding the German businessman as a storm pounded the Italian side of the Alps. “My brother is a very experienced ski mountaineer, so despite the time that has passed since (his disappearance) we aren’t giving up hope of finding him soon,” Christian Haub, Karl-Erivan’s brother who also manages Tengelmann wrote to his employees in a letter obtained by German media.
