The Inertia

Lakey Peterson suffered an ankle injury while surfing around her home on Wednesday afternoon, forcing her to pull out of the Roxy Pro Gold Coast, which is set to begin in just a few short weeks.

“Devastated to say that I’ll be pulling out of the Roxy Pro Gold Coast,” Peterson wrote on her Facebook. “I injured my ankle while surfing near home a few days ago. Hoping to be back soon stronger and better than ever. Thanks for your support.”

According to the WSL, Peterson broke her left ankle Wednesday while surfing Silver Strand in Ventura. “It was just a little left,” Peterson explained. “I hit the closeout section and I was coming down the face when I noticed this big backwash. I hadn’t seen a single backwash all day either. Snips [Peterson’s coach Mike Parsons] was on the beach, and he said the wave just exploded around me. I felt my left ankle go right away.”

See the wave that broke her ankle here.

We’re wishing Lakey a speedy recovery so we can see her happy, healthy, and ready for battle at Bells.
