Logan Hamby, a six-year-old from Dadeville, Alabama, was attacked by a shark while on a family vacation in Florida.
According to the Alexander City Outlook, Hamby’s parents were on a delayed honeymoon with their children when the attack occurred. Kenneth Hamby, the boy’s father, was sitting in the sand when he heard a scream. “I thought it was jellyfish,” he told the Alexander City Outlook.
By the time his father reached him, Logan was on the verge of being dragged into the sea by the shark. “Three seconds later, I don’t know if I could have saved him,” Kenneth continued.
After getting his son back to shore, two men, unknown to the Hamby family, joined in the effort to get the still-attached shark off the boy’s leg.
Doctors were able to stitch up the five deep puncture wounds and hundreds of other teeth marks inflicted by the shark. While Logan doesn’t remember much from the actual event, he told ER doctors that he “…wanted to shoot it with a speargun.”
Logan’s leg is expected to heal, and the time will tell whether the nickname the doctors gave him will stick: Shark Bait.
