The Inertia

An Australian man has been attacked by a shark at a popular Adelaide beach. According to 9 News, emergency services were called to the Port Noarlunga Jetty around 9:45 a.m., responding to reports that a swimmer had been bitten.

Richard Vinall, 66, was swimming around 500 feet offshore at Port Noarlunga Beach on Thursday morning when the attack took place.  A member of a local diving group visiting the beach at the same time told 7 News that Vinall’s partner was on the beach and heard his screams. “She and the surf lifesaving club went out to help, then emergency services were called,” said the diver.

Afterward, Vinall was taken to Flinders Medical Centre in serious condition. According to 7 News, he had received a serious injury to his thigh. A nearby school group and the aforementioned diving group were evacuated from the site.

Just days later, a ten-foot-long shark was spotted at Port Noarlunga Jetty, according to South Australian Police.
