The Inertia

It took a ragtag-but-visionary group of climbers, slackliners and BASE jumpers to point it out,
but we see it now: Ancient Art (5.9 A1), the spindly summit in Southeastern Utah’s Fisher Towers does look like a Christmas tree.

Especially when it’s decorated with lights and ornaments, which the Moab Monkeys pulled off this week. They didn’t half-ass it either: From the looks of this video, it took some serious metalwork, planning and elbow grease to create oramaments befitting the sandstone tower and to haul them up there.

Apparently leading the charge was Sketchy Andy, the man who brought you space nets and many, many, many close calls in the canyons around Moab. (Hence the moniker.)

Here’s the backstory, as told in a Facebook post from the Moab Monkeys:

As the ring leader himself put it, “Merry Christmas, you filthy animals.”
