The Super Bowl is over. Patriots fans are happy, Seahawk’s fans aren’t, and Pete Carroll has gone into hiding. The year goes on. But now that the dust has settled, fans everywhere can critique the Super Bowl commercials to determine which companies produced marketing masterpieces. Although Kelly Slater made a casual cameo in the Super Bowl Rally commercial, it’s no surprise – for the most part – that surfers took the backseat to camels and puppies in this year’s AdBowl. But that doesn’t mean surfing hasn’t left its mark on corporate America. Here’s the ten best commercials featuring professional surfers to prove that surfing is still relevant.
Kolohe Andino: Visa Checkout
Kolohe orders a pizza in the barrel at Teahuppo. Ha! Who knew there was delivery at the end of the road?
Mikey DeTemple: Mercedes E-Class
A scenic portrayal of a city surfer’s commute to the beach. After all, real surfers only drive Benz’s.
Alana Blanchard: T-mobile
A timeless classic that will be celebrated for generations.
Ian Walsh: HP
Ian Walsh and his HP computer travel the world in search of perfect waves.
Corky Carroll: Miller Light
Corky Carrol celebrates the classic combination that has come to define most Southern California Sunday afternoons: surfing and beer.
Laird Hamilton: American Express
How Laird’s water activities correlate to a credit card remains a mystery, but this commercial will always remain one of surfing’s greatest.
Anastasia Ashley: Old Spice
Anastasia Ashley and Gretchen Bleiler proving that professional athletes are in fact employable.
Courtney Conlogue: McDonald’s
Major throwback. But before Courtney was a title contender and fitness guru, she was just a mighty kid.
Malia Jones: V05
Pretty much a standard shampoo commercial with a surfboard.
Kelly Slater: L’Oreal
Who even knew this gem existed? Kelly Slater en francais avec a French supermodel.
Stephanie Gilmore, Kelly Slater, Gabriel Medina, and Mitch Crews: Samsung
Ok this one actually makes me sentimental. Without a doubt this is the best commercial to incorporate surfing. Nice job, Samsung.
