Can you imagine a better place to groom a world-class surfer than the North Shore of Oahu? From a competitive perspective, the Seven Mile Miracle hasn’t produced the sheer volume of world titles as some other CT factories around the globe but it’s still the epicenter of the sport for a reason.
Now, when we think of groms growing up on the North Shore, we envision Pipe. We picture a kid growing comfortable in one of the most dangerous waves on the planet at an astonishingly young age, a-la John John. But the area’s rich in variety, and Pipe often overshadows its playful neighbor just a few hundred meters to the east, Rocky Point. We easily forget how much talent this wave has churned out through the years, and this introduction of 15-year-old Luke Swanson is a beautiful reminder. Swanson is clearly the kind of surfer who carries a mixed bag of talents into the water and now all over the world, most notably an evolved aerial repertoire.
So there it is, add Luke Swanson to your “Future CTer” radar. The kid rips.
