The Inertia

A variation of dynamic blues and creamy abundant clouds hung above the modest five-acre island resort as we arrived via helicopter on Namotu. This was going to be our home for the next week in the South Pacific.

The number of things you can experience on this island are never ending. From free diving around the captivating corral reefs, to fishing for dog-toothed tuna through a thunderstorm, each day always came with some new adventure. But it was the last 48 hours of the trip when things really began to pick up. On Friday morning, we got up early, around 6 am, drank some coffee, grabbed our gear, and headed to Cloudbreak. We were far from disappointed when we arrived. With sunny clear skies and sets coming in well overhead, it was a picture perfect start to the day, and it didn’t end too bad either.

The afternoon was filled with dart games and awing over 100 lb yellow fin tuna that had been caught that morning. Then, before we knew it we were back out to Cloudbreak for one last session before the sun went down. Cloudbreak at dusk is really something else, with the setting sun illuminating the waves as the sky changed colors behind them, it was unlike anything I’d really ever seen before. We were able to squeeze a few fun one’s in just before having to head back in for dinner where we devoured sushi and Vonu for the rest of the night. A great end to a solid trip.
