The Inertia

Cannon Beach is on the way. First announced at the end of last year, the McKinney, Texas wave pool and resort is a project from developer Cole Cannon, who also created Revel Surf in Mesa, Arizona. As WFAA reports, Cannon’s company just broke ground Monday.

For surfers, the most interesting feature of the new facility north of Dallas will no doubt be the three-acre surf lagoon (powered by the same technology used in Mesa). However, in addition to the pool, the facility will include a somewhat mind-boggling number of non-surfing amenities. At the center of the development is a resort-style hotel with a rooftop pool, that connects to other water-focused attractions such as cliff diving, a lazy river and mineral hot springs. Around that, the developers promise amenities like a skateboard park, movie theater, bowling alley, health club, and more.

“This groundbreaking marks an important moment for our city’s future. The project brings new energy to McKinney, supporting growth that provides residents with more activities to enjoy while opening new avenues for local businesses to serve visitors and benefit from the increased activity this destination will attract,” said McKinney Mayor Bill Cox. “The City of McKinney is grateful for the dedication of everyone involved in guiding it forward and excited to see the positive impact it will have as it comes to life.”

Officials said the first phase of the pool could open as soon as mid-2027.
