#TourNotes is one of the simplest, most pure joys of every World Championship Tour season. There’s no real rhyme or reason to much of what it shares, other than giving a often hilarious look at life behind the scenes for everybody involved at a ‘CT event. The first episode of 2017 is a banger.
“Is Kelly Slater too old for the Tour?” That’s the simple question a handful of pros were given and understandably, no one volunteered to be the guy who said “yeah.” The 11-time champ may not have sniffed a world title for some time now but you’d be a fool to think he’s not just as capable of giving anybody on Tour a run for their money.
The first person posed with the question (aside from Kelly himself), is Pat O’Connell. It’s appropriate if you consider O’Connell was born the year before Slater and his last year on Tour was 2004. For some perspective, Kelly’s won five of his 11 world titles since then.
“Are you kidding me, no. Look at him,” O’Connell says. “How old are you? 23?”
