Scotland’s always been a last-minute thing. This year Rhys Barfield and I decided to leave for Scotland the morning after checking the charts the previous evening. It was on- Toby Ponachie, Luke Pillon, Angus Scotney and Rhys were all there before me, camped out in Thurso car park. I arrived after their bedtime, following a 14 hour motorway stint.
The following morning we woke to typical Scottish conditions – blue skies but ice cold wind. A short drive to the east coast and we found a four to six foot mutant right-hander, the same one that you see Luke dropping into the flats on. From then on it was North coast swell, and a variety of spots lit up.
After six days of scoring slabs all over the place, the swell died out and it was time for the pilgrimage home. Northern Nuggets was mainly edited in my head on the motorway home, then finished on the computer when I arrived.
