The Inertia

Many people know Ramón Navarro as the hard-charging Chilean local who has made a name for himself on the Big Wave World Tour. However, what many people do not know is that Navarro is a community-oriented leader and dedicated conservationist. As a long time Save The Waves ambassador, Ramón has used the success in his international surfing career as a platform to speak out on environmental issues in Chile. From opposing sewage pipelines and pulp mills on the Chilean coast, to helping his community recover from a devastating earthquake and tsunami, to his work on long-term protection for his beloved Punta de Lobos, Ramon has been a true leader in his community and beyond. He has done all of this and continued to blow minds in the world’s biggest surf. This is why we are recognizing him as the “Wave Saver of the Year,” at our annual “Life Is A Wave” event this May 30th, in San Francisco. Click the images above to find the 7 reasons we chose to honor Ramón.
