The Inertia

Big paddle sessions are tricky things. Wash throughs, nearly impossible paddle outs, gauging a shifting lineup — it’s all part and parcel of pushing the limits of paddle surfing. Nathan Florence, however, has it pretty much dialed. He’s spent more time than most in very large conditions, whether it be paddle or tow, and he knows how to get to the place he wants to be and onto the wave of his choice, regardless of how much the ocean doesn’t want him to.

In a recent Mexico session, he took out a 7’0″ (or 7’5″, he isn’t quite sure) quad setup. Brand new and freshly stickered up. And he surfed a very tricky paddle session extraordinarily well.
