Charleston, South Carolina has harbored a rich surf culture for generations now. It’s not exactly the most wave rich town, or even in a booming region for great surf, which makes all the stoke produced here that much more incredible.
Think about it, if you spent a chunk of time anxiously waiting for quality waves to roll through town it’d take some creativity to feed your passion. It can get pretty good in the U.S. Southeast when the right ingredients come together during hurricane season. But in between those opportunities the Carolina surf community pretty much needs to rely on one another to pass the days while staying stoked. This isn’t to say the Carolinas are some waveless abyss in the Atlantic. It’s just a little slower than our selfish appetites for getting barreled would like to see. Alas, the invention of the surf film came into our lives for late nights and flat spells. And the only thing better than a great surf film is catching a lot of great surf films with a lot of like minded people.
For the 2nd year this surf community will be gathering for the Carolina Surf Film Festival in Charleston. Who knows, maybe they’ll be gifted with waves all weekend. But if not, at least we know everybody in town will be pretty stoked nonetheless.
