The Inertia

A few days ago, as we headed into mid-July, Keramas flicked a switch. It was a morning session that really took the cake, though, and it was one particular barrel surfed by Crosby Colapinto that was the cherry on top. As the tide filled in and the morning wore on, the swell filled in too — and it turned into what Surfers of Bali called a unicorn session.

“It was as big as we’ve seen it in a while, and by a ridiculous stroke of luck, the wind backed right off and it was as smooth as it gets,” SOB wrote. “The normal pattern for this place is for the wind to start playing up between mid morning and lunchtime, and usually earlier during this time of the year. So for such glassy conditions at midday is uncommon. To time it with a swell of this size and shape is extremely rare.”

It just so happened that Colapinto, Jett Shilling, Bronson Meydi, Varun Tandjung, Wyatt McHale, and a whole bunch of other lucky surfers were there to catch the unicorn by the horn.
