Surfing runs deep in the Ho family blood. From the world titles, Triple Crowns, and other accolades Derek and Michael Ho racked up in the 80s and 90s, to Coco’s stalwart presence on the women’s world tour and Mason’s mind-blowing antics, there’s no doubt that there’s something special going on when it comes to the Ho family and waves. Part of that Ho family x-factor is their passion for waves, passed down from one generation to the next.
That family connection to surfing is what’s being explored in a new short film from Waiakea Water, titled Heʻenalu No Nā Kau A Kau | Forever Surfing Together as One. The film centers around the connection that Mike Ho and Coco Ho share as father and daughter, the connecting factor, of course, being surfing.

“For me, to get to be in the water with her means everything,” said Mike Ho. “I was introduced to the ocean by my dad, when you grow up over here in Hawaii you’re pretty much attracted to the ocean no matter what.”
“It truly is remarkable that my dad is still surfing and still has the love for it after 60 years,” says Coco. “I absolutely hope I can surf as long as he has.”
