Asher Pacey surfs beautifully. He doesn’t gouge at the wave like a maniacal butcher full of bloodlust. Instead, he uses it, moves with it, taps into it. It’s symbolic of the way he seems to live his life, too. He’s got a pretty unique outlook on life–growing up without electricity and learning how to live off the land probably had a hand in that. The little things we all take for granted aren’t so little when you’ve spent years without them. It’s the little things that make the world go ’round, after all–you just have to have your eyes open enough to see them. “The probability of finding a little bit of magic is still high if you go out and continue searching,” said Pacey. He’s spent his life off the beaten path, and although there may be a few more weeds on it, it’s way more interesting.
Here he is in the Maldives, painting a warm, clear canvas with a brush steeped in a life of finding magic.
