There are a lot of really good surfers on this planet. So many, in fact, that it takes a lot to stand out from the crowd. Especially if you’re not on the world stage that is the WSL’s Tour, simply because of exposure. So when a surfer like, say, Ryan Burch or Derrick Disney becomes a household name (a surfing household, anyway), you can bet that it’s for good reason. That good reason isn’t just that they surf extraordinarily well, it’s that they surf differently than the rest. Different boards. Different styles. Different approaches to… well, just about everything in surfing. Ah Choots! is a mini movie shot during the 2020 lockdown in Southern California, and it features, not only Burch and Disney, but also Andy Nieblas, Alanna Parra, Owen Kaestner, Koby Hughes, and Eric Snortum — all of whom surf exactly how they want to surf. And we love to see it.
