The Inertia

Baja is a lot of things to a lot of people. To many stateside, it’s a place often lumped into a picture of Mexico that’s painted with broad strokes – a place where rival drug cartels play shoot ’em up in the streets, or party central (especially around Spring Break). But for Southern California surfers, the dusty backroads of Baja, California offer the promise of warm water, reduced crowds, and (maybe) a renewed sense of adventure.

With a recent healthy bit of swell in the forecast, Alex Knost and Ellis Ericson packed their boards in the van and dipped south for the summer to taste some of Mexico’s fruits. The paths by now are well-worn but as Alex and Ellis demonstrate there are still plenty of waves to go around if you know where to look.
