The Red Bull Cape Fear contest was one of the greatest big wave events ever held. It was so good, in fact, that the WSL told their athletes to shut up about it, because it was making them look bad. So goes the rumor, anyway.
It was so good because it was so dangerous, and people like to watch things that might end in disaster. Take Evel Knievel, for example. That guy, along with thousands of other stunt men, made a living off almost killing himself. Red Bull’s event was no different–most of the competitors were leery of actually running the event in the conditions they did. They did, because the kind of person that surfs Ours is the kind of person that doesn’t back down for a challenge.
