Starting this week, Apple is releasing a series of films captured in Apple Immersive Video that will debut exclusively on the Apple Vision Pro. Among the virtual reality movies are several documentaries about surfing. Apple Vision Pro is a wearable computer, a mix of VR and a PC that Apple markets as “spatial computing.”

The first surfing-related VR film will come as part of a series entitled Boundless. While the series will premiere with an episode featuring hot air balloonists in Cappadocia, Turkey, the second entry will take viewers back down to sea level. Entitled Arctic Surfing, episode two will allow viewers to hitch a ride with surfers in the frigid waters north of the Arctic Circle.

Apple’s other surfing-related VR offering will be a collaboration with Red Bull, a brand that is obviously no stranger to the world of extreme sports. Red Bull: Big Wave Surfing will follow surfers challenging the notoriously heavy surf at Teahupo’o. The piece is filming this summer and will be available later this year.

“Apple Immersive Video is a groundbreaking leap forward for storytelling, offering Apple Vision Pro users remarkable experiences with an unparalleled sense of realism and immersion,” said Tor Myhren, Apple’s vice president of Marketing Communications, in a press release. “From soaring over volcanoes in Hawaii and surfing huge waves in Tahiti, to enjoying performances by the world’s biggest artists and athletes from all-new perspectives, Apple Immersive Video revolutionizes the way people experience places, stories, sports, and more by making viewers feel like they’re truly there. It’s the next generation of visual storytelling, and we’re excited to bring it to more people around the world.”
