The Inertia

Scooters are everywhere these days, rolling heavy on the streets and invading skateparks across the nation. And there’s no denying that there are kids out there who actually rip on them (many ride both scooters and BMX bikes). But if you’ve been to a park lately, you can literally feel the tension between skaters and this new breed of two-wheeled rider (scooterers probably isn’t a word, right?). It’s kind of like crowded lineups, where surfers take their frustrations out on stand-up paddlers, even if the paddlers are doing their best to be courteous.

To be fair, this poor kid was already riding when the skater dropped in. But you can tell there was some pent-up frustration as the skateboarder chucks the little guy’s scooter like a frisbee. The kid knows what’s coming, too, as he scrambles to escape the angry beast. What’s the vibe like at your local park?
