Surfboards aren’t cheap. Well, they are for Aritz Aranburu, because chances are good that he’s not paying for them, but SOMEONE is paying for them. But because of a few thieving assholes in France, Aranburu’s down a few customs.
“I GOT ROBBED / ROBO DE TABLAS”, he wrote on Instagram. “If anyone sees or buys some surfboards like this one here with my name on them they have been stolen in Hossegor – Vieux Boucau area. 5’11s, 6’1s and 6’3. I would appreciate some info. Thank you.”
Surfing is a strange sport, when you think about it. What other sport would see an athlete getting his gear stolen? Imagine Tiger Woods heading to the Masters and getting his clubs stolen. Or Michael Phelps getting his speedo ripped off (not literally). It just doesn’t happen. But in surfing, it’s not all that uncommon–back in 2013, for example, Kelly Slater’s quiver was stolen on the North Shore. Just a few months ago, in fact, Seth Moniz had his stolen as well. He was on a layover in LA before heading to South Africa when someone decided to help themselves to a large, beautiful bag of boards. Luckily, Alex Gray came to the rescue and used his Instagram to get them back. Insta-hero.
And now Aritz, poor fella. So, like the man says, if you end up finding a board that says his name on it, give the guy a holler and let him know.
