The Inertia

Not all waves are treated equally — and for good reason. Surfing’s proving grounds hosted the best barrel riders this week for the 2015 Volcom Pipe Pro on the North Shore of O’ahu. This year, the locals had the upper hand, capped off with a dynamic final heat between John John Florence and Mason Ho.

Backdoor was favorable to Pipeline lefts due to the swell direction, and it was JJF that found all the right tubes to spit him out onto the podium as reigning champion. His stalker fans were sure to snap the ultimate selfies as the prodigy claimed the throne.

And that, my friends, is what growing up with Pipe in your backyard comes down to… defending their home break and surfing a two-man heat in glassy February conditions — and getting paid for it.

If you missed a heat, or the entire thing for that matter, check out VolcomPipePro.com.
