It goes without saying that more power and balance equals better surfing. It doesn’t matter if you’re hanging ten down at San Onofre or putting your entire soul into a gauging man-turn at J-Bay; core and balance exercises like this will help fine-tune your surfing just the way you like it. No one illustrates this idea better than Kolohe Andino.

The protégé from San Clemente honed his skills at a very young age. At the time, his air-revos were unparalleled and his cutbacks were pretty wicked. But his first year on the professional World Tour was nothing short of disastrous. This is because Kolohe lacked one critical element that every other surfer on tour had: power. That is, until former professional surfer and full-time coach, Mike Parsons, kicked his butt in the gym. It was core-stability exercises like these that enabled Kolohe to reach that next level in his surfing career. A blind man could have seen the huge difference in his surfing, and his results on tour showed it.
